Happy Holidays ...

First off, the applicable apologies for the dearth of posts. I offer no excuses, only my regrets.

Things have been as insane as you might imagine. Breaking down the family's status, youngest to oldest:

Cooper: Now clocking in at around 30 pounds, the 15-month-old is an eating machine, regularly pounding away several servings of whatever he's served. He has few dislikes (although, oddly, perennial crowd-pleaser cheese is one of them). Reports from daycare indicate he runs the room, despite the fact he's younger than most of his classmates.

His sweet nature belies, well, a bit of a temper. Teachers used to feign disbelief at our reports of his tantrums.

They don't do that anymore.

Hobbies include: Climbing, bath time, "Blue's Clues," pestering his brother and his pacifier.

Quotable: "Cheeeese!" (Ironic, I know -- see above -- but he only says it when the camera's pointing at him.)

Bonus fun fact: He actually goes to sleep! Willingly! No kidding at all!

Jake: Now 3, Jake actually has his own place, with a dragon ("Arnold"), two bears (one big, one small), his own car (red) and a couple bad guys.

Mommy and Daddy are allowed to visit. Cooper? Best call ahead first.

With "no naps" now a secure plank in his party platform, he still manages to remain mostly functional. Mostly.

School is fun, although, due to previously-stated political views, nap time remains a problem.

Hobbies include: A sports nut, he enjoys throwing the football (and knocking you down after you catch it), making baskets (while singing "Let's Get It Started" by the Black Eyed Peas) and hitting the baseball (he hit one over the backyard fence recently ... which was more impressive than when he later threw the last remaining ball over ANOTHER part of the fence).

Horseback riding (pictured) and marching along to the Ohio State marching band's music is also a consistent highlight.

Quotable: "Um, once, when I was a little boy ... I was a lion."

Bonus fun fact: Was once a lion.

Tammy: She's been teaching "part-time" at the Mustard Seed for most of the year, which is nice because she's close to the kids. It's also a problem because she's close to the kids.

Hobbies include: She's really ratcheted her scrapbooking activities to a new level ... I'm not even sure it counts as a "hobby" anymore.

She's also been known to read, although it's hard to spot in the brief moments she's not chasing toddlers or completing a project.

Matt: Continues his work at MySA.

Hobbies include: Fantasy sports, mostly, although he still tries to see the occasional movie. OLD GUY ALERT: Became confused and requested the wrong "Bourne" movie from Netflix. Managed to redeem himself, somewhat, by not watching the entire movie before discovering his error.

Identifying, meeting and escaping Santa

Using his powers of observation, Cooper identifies the Santa in the room ...

Jake gets the jump on his wish list (a dragon and a banana were the top items).

The brothers each share some Santa Time. Cooper, apparently, has had enough.

Halloween 2007, Part 4: Hitting the streets

(Compare to last photo in this post.)

Halloween 2007, Pt. 3: The Consultation

Overheard as we prepare to leave the house:

Cooper: "Damn it, Jake, you can't play God. You're just a man!!!"

Jake: "Yeah, whatever. Hmmm. What's her name?"

Halloween 2007, Pt. 2: Cooper

Jake's slightly shorter colleague:

(And yes, that costume name tag says "Dr. Q.T. Patootie." We sincerely apologize.)

Halloween 2007, Pt 1: Jake

Just a few quick snapshots from Halloween '07. We have more to come ...

In his own words ...

Jake T. on his flu shot, received Monday, Sept. 10, 2007:

"It hurt. I cried."

More on this as it develops ...

A few new pics ...

Pardon the image quality ... perhaps we'll get some higher-rez ones available sometime soon.

Here's Cooper at 1 year old.

I could keep this up all day ...

More obnoxious fun ...

Hot on the heels of the Motivational Poster debacle comes my discovery of LabelMaker2600, which enables you to upload your own art and name and create an Atari 2600 "game cartridge."

If you're over 25, you probably get it.

Anyway, here's my first foray:

Like I said ...

You WILL grow tired of this ...

But I re-(re-)discovered the Parody Motivational Poster site, and I will have way too much fun with it.

You're warned.

Would this be premeditation?

Can't believe I forgot to post this one, which really needs no caption or funny comment whatsoever.

Believe it or not, I don't think he was up to anything, well, "actionable." Just playin' with a golf club. (That's what we told the cops about, anyway.)

More birthday fun ...

"Cake?! Gimme Gimme!"

Post-Party chillin' ...

"Boy, I sure wish I'D have gotten a cool new drum for my birthday. Hey, wait a minute ..."

The remnants ...

More birthday photos will be forthcoming, but, until then ...

Enjoy!

Again, Cooper has trouble with the shutter speed.

Please Hammer, Don't Hurt 'Em

Jake teeing off on a piñata is awesome. The (probably entirely unrelated) look of concern on his teacher's face? Even awesomer.

Did we mention Cooper walks?

Couple of Jake ...

These are from his third birthday photo shoot, a couple months ago ...

New photos ...

We had Cooper in to have his 9-month-old photos taken. Here's one (we'll have some more later):

Bluebonnets!

We waited until the last minute to snap a picture of the guys in a field of bluebonnets (it's a Texas Hill Country tradition, I'm told), but this is what we came up with:

Oh, yeah, and then the stuff in the air in the field gave 'em allergies and they ended up getting ear infections and they're currently on antibiotics. But ain't the photos cute???

The Family Chatroom

JakeByTheLake: Wanna play animals?

Cooper-Man: Animals? Oh! I do! I do!

JakeByTheLake: Wanna play animals, Mommy?

Cooper-Man: I do! I do!

Tammy-Nator: I've got to finish the laundry and start dinner ... sorry.

JakeByTheLake: Wanna play animals, Daddy?

Cooper-Man: I do! I do!

Patter-Familias: Gee. Animals? For the thousandth time today? Gosh, what a treat. How about, I dunno, baseball in the back yard?

JakeByTheLake: Wanna play animals?

Cooper-Man: I wanna play! I wanna play! (begins crawling toward Jake)

JakeByTheLake: Cooper, no crawling! Daddy, you play animals!

Patter-Familias: As soon as I'm done, um, fixing this broken phone. (Smash! Tinkle, tinkle.) Sorry.

JakeByTheLake: Mommy, You play animals.

Cooper-Man: (Struggling.) Almost … There!

JakeByTheLake: No, Cooper! Mommy?

Tammy-Nator: Ask your Daddy.

Cooper-Man: I wanna play!

JakeByTheLake: No, Cooper!

Cooper-Man: Victory! (Grabs toy animal.)

JakeByTheLake: No! (Snatches toy away.)

(Tumbles to the ground.) Waaaaaaaah!

JakeByTheLake: Uh-oh.

Patter-Familias: Jake, that's not fair! He's just a little guy and he looks up to you and you can't go and knock him over like that!

JakeByTheLake: Sorry Daddy.

Patter-Familias: I'm not the one you should be saying sorry to.

JakeByTheLake: Sorry Cooper.

Cooper-Man: (Sniff.)

Tammy-Nator: That's right. Just be careful. Now ... have you learned anything from this?

JakeByTheLake: (Long pause.) Wanna play animals?

Cooper-Man: Animals? Oh! I do! I do!
